Romany Ancestry
A lot of people in the UK put all Gypsies and travelers in the same category. When in actuality we are separate ethnicities. Travelers come from the UK where as Romani Gypsies originated in India. They left via the north of India around 1300 years ago. They then migrated throughout the world, largely landing in Europe. There are several types of Roma, some are: Romanichal, Kale, Manush, Sinti, Zingari, Ashkali, Gitano, Kalderash and so many more. Most Roma came to England around the 15th century, but there was DNA evidence that the earliest Roma in England was a slave who's remains go back to the 12th century.
I have been working on my family tree for around 15 years, in 2020 myself, my mother, father, grandmother, first cousins and aunt decided to do our DNA. Some of the results are below. My father shows considerable amounts of Bulgarian Roma, Slovenian Roma, Macedonian Roma, BH Roma and also unspecified Roma which I think is his Zingari/Kale. My fathers family did not come to the UK until the mid 1700s. My mothers mothers DNA shows up as Romani & A lot of Indian castes like Sindi, Jatt, Hakki Pikki, along with a lot of Balochi and Punjab.
We do have our own language, Rromanes, which is based on Sanskrit.
